Game 1 Demon Remains
PROPOSED TERM: [fallen capital name] — the prior Afterwar's main human-domain capital, now a Crownrot ground-zero site, has no committed name yet.
NOTE: The blood/bones/breath/eyes/body-core taxonomy below is Game 1's specific instantiation of the universe-scope remains pattern. It is
soft canon for Game 1; at universe scope,ul-demon-king-remains.md § "the taxonomy of specific remains types beyond heart-fragments is proposed"lists the specific remains taxonomy asproposed. Game 1 commits its instances; universe-scope commitment is deferred.
Scope
This file owns the Game 1 specific taxonomy of the prior Demon King's remains as they are distributed across the continent and observable in the Zone: blood as tainted rivers, bones as black ridges and corrupted mines, breath as ash storms, eyes as relics and visions, body-core as the fallen capital's Crownrot ground-zero, residual gates and spawn pools, Heartbound demons in the Zone, tainted beasts, blightspawn, and dead champion remains. It is the Game 1 instantiation of ul-demon-king-remains.md's remains pattern. Universe-scope mechanics (heart-fragment cosmology, Heartbound binding, Crownrot pattern at apex) live in their ul-* files; this file describes the specific Game 1 instances.
Facts
Fact: Blood of the prior Demon King has tainted rivers and fields across the blighted continent.
Blood-class remains of the prior Demon King have tainted rivers, springs, and fields across the blighted side of the continent. Tainted rivers are generation-stable hazards, not temporary wounds; the contamination does not flush downstream and clear, it persists across the Afterwar. River-tainting is one of the most common environmental remains in Game 1 and structures the routes the player can safely use.

Fact: Bones of the prior Demon King have become black ridges and corrupted mine regions.
Bone-class remains have fused into terrain — black ridges, corrupted mine regions, and stone formations that are physically altered by the remains' presence. These are not symbolic features; they are demon-pressure sources that radiate corruption into surrounding land. Black ridges are recognizable by colour and by the consistent failure of growth on them.

Fact: Breath of the prior Demon King persists as ash storms and night-wind taint events.
Breath-class remains persist as periodic Afterwar weather: ash storms, night-wind taint events, and weather patterns that carry residual demon influence over distance. They are not one-time events; they recur on continent-wide cycles tied to season, place, and proximity to other remains. Ash-storm shelter is a survival concern in the Zone.

Fact: Eyes of the prior Demon King have become relics and moon-linked visions.
Eye-class remains are scattered object-remains — relics found in ruins, vaults, and old battlefields. Some grant perception-distorting effects; others grant unwelcome vision-granting effects (moon-linked visions, prophecy fragments, glimpses of demon-origin layer geometry). They are dangerous to handle; the binding/perception cost the user pays is part of the world-law.

Fact: Body-core of the prior Demon King is fused into the fallen capital as Crownrot ground zero.
PROPOSED TERM: [fallen capital name] — the prior Afterwar's main human-domain capital is now a Crownrot ground-zero site at continental scale. The body-core of the prior Demon King is possibly fused into this site, anchoring the worst Crownrot pattern on the continent. The fallen capital is not in the MC's starting Zone; it is a continent-scale objective relevant to late-act Reclamation play.

Fact: Crownrot has consumed the fallen capital at continental scale.
The fallen capital — the prior Afterwar's main human-domain governance centre — is now a Crownrot site of continental significance. Its corruption is the continent-scale instantiation of the Crownrot pattern from ul-demon-king-remains.md: authority structures consumed by demonic remains. The capital is unreachable in early acts; it appears as old map markers, refugee accounts, and historical references.

Fact: Residual gates in the Zone are lesser-grade only.
No fully open Royal Gate operates in the MC's starting Zone or its immediate surroundings. What remains are lesser residual gates (degraded but still leaking demon presence), abandoned gate scars (taint-fields and corrupted leyline segments), and spawn pools. The Zone's demon pressure comes from this lower-tier infrastructure, not from a peak-Cycle gate.

Exposure note: Surfaced as hinted per lh-game1-world-hooks.md — NPC commentary references the gate-scale distinction without naming Royal Gates as cosmological category.
Fact: Spawn pools produce lesser demons from local corrupted matter without an open gate.
Spawn pools in the Zone are local patches of accumulated taint that produce lesser demons from corrupted local matter, not direct gate-bridging from the demon-origin layer. They reform unless their taint source is cleansed; closing one is a smaller ritual than closing a true gate, but the cleansing must reach the source. Spawn pools are the most common encounter site in early-act exploration.

Fact: Some Zone demons are Heartbound and behave with unusual coherence.
A subset of lesser demons in the Zone behave with unusual coherence — coordinated movement, target prioritization, withdrawal patterns that suggest direction. The binding mechanism is the heart-fragment held by the false-king (see gl-game1-false-king.md); these demons are the Heartbound class from ul-demon-king-remains.md instantiated for Game 1. The political implication of their coordination is a late-game reveal, not an early-act fact.

Exposure note: Surface effect (coordinated demon behaviour) reaches hinted early; the false-king connection is revealed only at the late political reveal.
Fact: Tainted beasts are native wildlife corrupted into hybrid threats.
Tainted beasts are native wildlife exposed to taint long enough to become hybrid threat creatures. They are not demons — they are setting-native fauna that has been corrupted — but they are hostile, taint-spreading, and dangerous. They occupy ecological niches (predator, scavenger, herd-displacer) that the MC must navigate alongside true demon threats.

Fact: Blightspawn are non-gate demon-adjacent spawn from corrupted matter.
Blightspawn are local corrupted matter that achieves a form of hostile semi-coherence under persistent taint. They are distinct from proper demon spawn (which requires either a gate or a spawn pool tied to demon-origin essence) and from tainted beasts (which are corrupted native fauna). Blightspawn are the lowest tier of hostile coherent threat — the world's response to long-standing taint, not an external incursion.

Fact: Dead champion remains are distributed hazard sites.
Demon Knights and demon champions slain or sealed during the prior peak left distributed hazard sites: relics, weapon-scars on terrain, corruption anchors, and binding-circles that did not fully resolve. These are scattered across the continent and the Zone; some are containment sites the MC must avoid disturbing, others are sources of high-risk relics or True Harm material nodes.
